PASADENA – The Armenian Educational Benevolent Union (AEBU) Scholarship Fund Committee is pleased to announce the opening of the 2026–2027 AEBU Scholarship Program application period. Beginning April 1, 2026, eligible undergraduate students are encouraged to apply for this valuable educational opportunity.

Scholarships of up to $2,000 will be awarded to deserving students who meet the following criteria:

• Be of Armenian descent
• Be enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year U.S. university
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5
• Demonstrate active involvement in community service

Completed applications must be submitted no later than June 30, 2026 at:

PASADENA — The Armenian Educational Benevolent Union (AEBU) proudly hosted its 7th Annual Scholarship Award Ceremony and Dinner on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the AEBU Center in Pasadena, California. The event brought together community leaders, supporters, families, and students to celebrate the achievements of this year’s outstanding scholarship recipients.

The evening began with welcoming remarks by Dr. Rosine Der-Tavitian, a current member of the AEBU Scholarship Fund Committee, who thanked attendees for their continued support. She acknowledged the dedicated members of the Scholarship Fund Committee, including Chair Mr. Vasken Khodanian, and committee members Mr. Jirayr Guiragossian, Ms. Talin Keshishoghlian, Mr. Khatchig Kechian, and Mrs. Karine Kojababian, all present at the event. She also recognized Mr. Tateos Koroghlian and Mrs. Loucine Boyamian, who were unable to attend.

Serving as Master of Ceremonies was Ellen Vartanyan, a Political Science student and active Armenian community leader. Vartanyan, who recently completed an internship in Washington, D.C. with the Armenian Assembly of America and the Osgood Center for International Studies, emphasized the importance of empowering youth through knowledge, service, and advocacy.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Talinn Grigor, Professor of Art and Architectural History at the University of California, Davis. A leading scholar in postcolonial and feminist art and architectural history, Dr. Grigor discussed her newly released book, The Armenian Woman, Minoritarian Agency, and the Making of Iranian Modernity, 1860–1979 (Stanford University Press, 2025), co-authored with Dr. Houri Berberian. She highlighted the critical role Armenian women played in shaping modern Iranian history and stressed the power of education as a tool of empowerment.

Honoring the Scholarship Recipients

Since its inception in 2017, the AEBU Scholarship Program has awarded more than $150,000 to over 70 students across the United States, Armenia, and Lebanon. This year, scholarships were awarded to a new group of inspiring Armenian students pursuing higher education in a variety of fields including political science, mathematics, international relations, sociology, and animal science. One of the most inspiring moments of the evening was when the attendees were introduced to a young man who sponsored one of the awards this year. Mr. Mher Babikian, Service Tax Senior Manager at Ernst and Young in Seattle, WA has recently donated all the monetary gifts he received on his birthday and graduation to the AEBU Scholarship Fund in memory of his grandmother, Mrs. Araxi Babikian. In his speech, he urged all the young attendees to pursue higher education at any cost.

2025 U.S.-based Scholarship Recipients:

Sofia Gevorgian – Los Angeles, CA
Sofia is studying Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies at UCLA. She contributes as a writer for Aleph, a journal showcasing undergraduate research, and serves as a judicial intern at the Los Angeles Superior Court. Sofia is also a researcher for the Aurora Foundation’s humanitarian program and tutors English to Korean students via Ringle.

Ellen Hovhannisyan – Laramie, WY
Ellen is attending Columbia University, majoring in Political Science and Economics with a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. She is the co-founder of Gitunik, an online school for children affected by the Artsakh War. Ellen is also an Armenian language tutor, translator, and an avid cellist.

Samantha Kelejian – Fresno, CA
Samantha studies History and Performing Arts at UC San Diego. She volunteers at the Fresno Rescue Mission, supports Blanket Making and Bunco for Bears committees, and frequently performs the National Anthem at Armenian community events.

Susan Latchinian – Pasadena, CA
Susan will attend UC Davis to study Animal Science. While at Pasadena City College, she was an active member of the Armenian Students Association, helping decorate the Armenian Float. She has danced with the Nor Serount Cultural Association and volunteered at Christmas Tree Lane. Susan also worked at Hillcrest Pet Hospital, assisting with pre- and post-surgical care.

Ohan Semirjyan – Bethesda, MD
Ohan is pursuing Applied Mathematics and Finance at the University of Maryland. He serves as the head coach at Shnorhali School (St. Mary Armenian Church) and is treasurer of the university’s Armenian Students Association. He also participated in the university’s FIRE program (First-Year Innovation and Research Experience).

Verzhin Shagrikyan – Pasadena, CA
Verzhin is studying Sociology at California State University, Los Angeles. She served as President of her high school’s Armenian Club for two years and traveled to Armenia on a mission trip to teach students from Artsakh. She also tutors in STEM subjects and works as a peer leader.

Sargis Simonyan – Yerevan, Armenia
Sargis is currently studying International Relations at Johns Hopkins University. A former board member of Georgetown University’s Armenian Students Association, he also participated in Arabic calligraphy workshops and continues to explore the cultural intersections of language and identity.

Each recipient shared their journey through in-person speeches or video messages, underscoring the transformative impact of AEBU’s support on their academic and community goals.

The evening also featured a silent auction of artwork donated by Mr. Souren and Sona Der Stepanian of Quadra Framing (Glendale, CA), and artist Mr. Avedis Magarian (QoVadis). Proceeds from the auction will directly benefit the AEBU Scholarship Fund.

Հայկական Կրթական Բարե-սիրական Միութիւնը (ՀԿԲՄ) կազմակերպեց 7-րդ Տարեկան կրթանպաստներու բաշխումը Շաբաթ, Օգոստոս 23, 2025-ին Փասատինայի իր  կեդրոնէն ներս տեղի ունեցած ընթրիքի մը ընթացքին, որուն ներկայ էին համայնքային առաջնորդներ, հովանաւորներ, ընտանիքներ եւ ուսանողներ` նշելու համար խումբ մը ուսանողներու ձեռքբերումները` կրթական մարզէն ներս:

Երեկոն սկսաւ Դոկտ. Ռոզին Տէր-Դաւիթեանի ողջոյնի խօսքով: Ան շնորհակալութիւն յայտնեց ներկաներուն իրենց շարունակական  աջակցութեան համար ու յատուկ գոհունակութիւն արտայայտեց Կրթանպաստներու Յանձնախումբի նուիրեալ անդամներուն, որոնց շարքին էին յանձնախումբի ատենապետ` Վազգէն Խոտանեան, եւ անդամներ  Ժիրայր Կիրակոսեանին, Թալին Քէշիշօղլեանին, Խաչիկ Քէչեանին եւ Կարինէ  Քոճապապեանին:  Ան նաեւ յիշատակեց Թադէոս Քորօղլեանը եւ Լուսինէ Պոյամեանը, որոնք չէին կարողացած ներկայ գտնուիլ` ճամբորդութեան պատճառաւ:

Երեկոյն վարեց  Էլեն Վարդանեանը, քաղաքական գիտութիւններու ուսանող եւ գործունեայ  անդամ հայ համայնքէն ներս: Վարդանեան վերջերս աւարտեց իր փորձաշրջանը Ուաշինկթընի մէջ` Հայկական Համագումարի եւ Osgood Center-ի հետ: Ան ընդգծեց երիտասարդութեան հզօրացման անհրաժեշտութիւնը` գիտելիքի, ծառայութեան եւ պահանջատիրութեան միջոցով:

Հանդիսավարուհին յայտնեց, որ 2017-էն ի վեր, ՀԿԲՄ-ը անցնող եօթը տարիներու ընթացքին յատկացուցած է աւելի քան150 հազար տոլար` աջակցելով աւելի քան 70 ուսանողներու` Միացեալ Նահանգներու, Հայաստանի եւ Լիբանանի մէջ: «Այս տարի, մրցանակներ ստացան հայ ուսանողներու նոր խումբ մը, որոնք կը հետապնդեն բարձրագոյն կրթութիւն տարբեր ոլորտներու մէջ` ներառեալ քաղաքական գիտութիւն, մաթեմատիկա, միջազգային յարաբերութիւններ, հասարակագիտութիւն եւ կենդանաբանութիւն», ըսաւ ան:

Օրուան գլխաւոր բանախօսն էր`  Դոկտ. Թալին Կրիկոր, Քալիֆորնիայի Տէյվիս Համալսարանի Գեղարուեստի եւ Ճարտարապետական Պատմութեան Բաժնի դասախօս: Որպէս հետգաղութային եւ ֆեմինիստական գեղարուեստի եւ ճարտարապետական պատմութեան առաջատար գիտնական, ան ներկայացուց իր նոր հրատարակուած գիրքը` “The Armenian Woman, Minoritarian Agency, and the Making of Iranian Modernity, 1860-1979”, հեղինակուած Դոկտ. Հուրի Պերպէրեանի հետ միասնաբար: Կրիկոր ընդգծեց հայ կիներու կարեւոր դերը Իրանի արդի պատմութեան մէջ եւ շեշտեց կրթութեան ուժը` իբրեւ հզօրացման միջոց:

Երեկոյի ամենաոգեւորող պահերէն մէկը եղաւ  Մհեր Պապիկեանի ելոյթը: Ան որպէս  աւագ կառավարիչ Ernst & Young ընկերութեան մէջ, իր ծննդեան եւ աւարտական տարեդարձի բոլոր նուէրները փոխանցեց ՀԿԲՄ-ի կրթանպաստներու Հիմնադրամին ի յիշատակ իր տատիկին` Տիկ. Արաքսի Պապիկեանի: Ան իր խօսքին մէջ կոչ ուղղեց երիտասարդներուն հետամուտ ըլլալ բարձրագոյն կրթութեան` անկախ բոլոր խոչընդոտներէն:

2025-ին Միացեալ Նահանգներու տարբեր քաղաքներէն կրթանպաստներու արժանացան ուսանողներն էին․

 

Սոֆիա Գէորգեան, Էլեն Յովհաննիսեան, Սամանթա Քէլէճեան,  Սուզան Լաչինեան, Օհան Սէմիրճեան, Վերժին Շաղրիկեան եւ  Սարգիս Սիմոնեան:

Շահողները կիսեցին իրենց ուսումնական եւ անձնական պատմութիւնները` ընդգծելով ՀԿԲՄ-ի աջակցութեան խորքային ազդեցութիւնը իրենց ակադեմիական եւ համայնքային նպատակներուն իրագործման մէջ:

PASADENA  – The Armenian Educational Benevolent Union (AEBU) Scholarship Fund Committee is excited to announce the recipients of the 2024-2025 scholarships. This year’s awards recognize outstanding students from the United States, Armenia, and Lebanon.

After reviewing a substantial number of applications from highly qualified candidates both domestically and internationally, the selection process proved rigorous yet rewarding, with a strong emphasis on community service and volunteerism. The Committee has selected seven recipients from the United States, four from Armenia, and three from Lebanon.

The award ceremony took place during the AEBU’s 6th Annual Benefit Brunch on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the AEBU Center in Pasadena. During the event, U.S. recipients were honored with their awards.

Miss Aleen Kozian, the event’s master of ceremonies and a 2021 AEBU Scholarship recipient, opened the ceremony with heartfelt remarks. Aleen shared her personal journey and the significant impact of the scholarship, stating, “This scholarship provides more than just financial aid; it offers a sense of validation and encouragement. It serves as a reminder that my hard work and perseverance were recognized and valued. This boost in confidence propels us forward, helping us to excel academically and personally.”

Following her address, Aleen presented a brief overview of AEBU’s mission and the specific goals of the Scholarship Fund. Mr. Tateos Koroglian and Mr. Jirair Guiragossian then took the stage to present the awards for this year.

The AEBU Scholarship Fund Committee extends its congratulations to all the 2024-2025 award recipients and wishes them continued success in their academic and personal endeavors.

UNITED STATES:

Vaughan Abakians
Vaughan graduated this year from AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian High School in Canoga Park. This fall he will be attending UC Berkley as a freshman majoring in Physics with the goal to earn his PhD in theoretical physics and use his knowledge to benefit the Armenian community by continuing to teach younger students physics and mathematics and provide them with an introduction to research.

 Lily Akopyan
Lily graduated from Burbank High School in 2023 and is currently a high-achieving second-year student at UCLA, majoring in Physiological Science with plans to attend medical school. She aims to use her growing knowledge to improve the lives of those in her community, particularly fellow Armenians.

 Ani Fisher
Ani graduated this year from Ursuline Academy in Dedham, Massachusetts and is a Freshman at University of Massachusetts, Lowell majoring in Chemistry with concentration in Biochemistry with the goal to study pharmaceuticals and drug production. Ultimately, introducing affordable medicine making them accessible to certain countries with limited means and specially Armenia.

Osan Jarekian
Osan graduated from Granada Hills Charter High School in 2020 and is currently a junior at California State University, Northridge, where she is majoring in Biology and Psychology as she prepares for medical school. Osan’s passion for giving back to the community is evident in her extensive volunteer work with both Armenian and non-Armenian organizations.

 Taline Nahapetian
Taline graduated this year from Holy Martyrs Ferrahian High School in Encino. This fall she will attend Stanford University majoring in Economics and International Relations. Beyond her academic achievements, Taline has shown remarkable dedication to her Armenian community through her advocacy and research efforts.

 Sandra Papazian
Sandra graduated this year from Armenian Mesrobian School in Pico Rivera as a high-achieving student and will be attending UCLA this fall, majoring in Biology with the goal of pursuing a career in medicine. She is committed to using her education to benefit her immediate community and Armenia through volunteer work and contributions to various organizations.

 Alique Tufenkjian
Alique graduated this year from Marshall Fundamental High School in Pasadena and is a freshman at UCLA majoring in Human Biology and Society with the goal to further pursue her studies and conduct biomedical and public health research. Besides her academic success, she’s passionate about photography and filmmaking.

LEBANON:
Serly Bedigian, Gary Gulian, and Sevag Izmirlian

Կիրակի, Օգոստոս 18-ին տեղի ունեցաւ Հայ կրթական Բարեսիրական  Միութեան (ՀԿԲՄ) Կրթաթոշակային Յանձնախումբի կազմակերպած նախաճաշ ընդունելութիւնը, որուն ընթացքին յայտարարուեցան 2024-2025 կրթական տարուայ կրթանպաստ ստացողներու անունները:

Այս տարուայ մրցանակները շնորհուած են Միացեալ Նահագներու տարբեր կողմերէն, Հայաստանէն եւ Լիբանանէն 14 համալսրանական ուսանողներու:

Պարգեւատրման արարողութիւնը տեղի ունեցաւ ՀԿԲՄ-ի Փասատենայի կենդրոնէն ներս:

Օրիորդ Ալին Գուզուեան՝  միջոցառման հանդիսավար եւ ՀԿԲՄ-ի 2021-ի կրթանպաստին արժանացած, վարեց հանդիսութիւնը՝ կիսուելով է իր անձնական ճանապարհորդութեան եւ կրթաթոշակի նշանակալի ազդեցութեան մասին. «Այս կրթաթոշակը կը տրամադրուի  ոչ միայն որպէս պարզ  ֆինանսական աջակցութիւն. այլ եւ  վաւերացման եւ խրախուսման զգացում կ՛առաջացնէ: Այն կը յիշեցնէ, որ իմ քրտնաջան աշխատանքն ու հաստատակամութիւնը ճանաչուեցան եւ գնահատուեցան: Վստահութեան այս բարձրացումը մեզ կը մղէ առաջ՝ օգնելով մեզ գերազանցել ուսումնական եւ անձնական կեանքին մէջ»:

Իր բացման խօսքէն յետոյ Ալին ներկայացուց ՀԿԲՄ-ի առաքելութեան եւ կրթաթոշակային հիմնադրամի յատուկ նպատակներու համառօտ պատմութիւնը:

Ապա բեմ բարձրացան Յանձնախումբի ղեկավարներէն Տիար Թադէոս Քորողլեանը ու Ժիրայր Կիրակոսեանը՝ ներկայացնելու այս տարուան մրցանակները:

Այս տարուն մրցանակակիրներն էին.

Միացեալ Նահանգներէն.

– ՀԲԸՄ Մանուկեան-Տէմիրճեան վարժարանի շրջանաւարտ եւ Քալիֆորնիոյ Պըրքլիի Համալսարնի առաջին տարուայ ունող՝ Վոն Աբաքեան

– UCLA համալսարանի երկրորդ տարուան ուսանող՝ Լիլի Յակոբեան

PASADENA  – The Armenian Educational Benevolent Union (AEBU) Scholarship Fund Committee is thrilled to announce the commencement of the application period for the 2024-2025 AEBU Scholarship program. Beginning on April 1, 2024, eligible undergraduate students are encouraged to submit their applications for this highly anticipated opportunity.

Individual scholarships, valued up to $2,000 each, will be awarded to deserving students who meet the specified criteria. To qualify, applicants must be of Armenian descent, enrolled as full-time students in accredited four-year universities in the United States, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5, and demonstrate active involvement in community service, with a focus on contributions to the Armenian community.

All completed application packets must be submitted either by mail or online no later than June 30, 2024. Mailed applications should be addressed to the AEBU Scholarship Committee at 1060 N. Հայկական Կրթական Բարեսիրական Միութեան (ՀԿԲՄ) կրթանպաստներու Յանձնախումբը ուրախ էյայտարարելու, որ պիտի սկսի ընդունիլ 2024-2025 տարեշրջանի կրթնպաստներու դիմումները։

Կը քաջալերենք համալսարանական ուսանողները՝ Ապրիլ 1, 2024-էն սկսեալ ներկայացնելու իրենց դիմումնագիրերը այս սպասուած առիթին համար։։

Անհատական կրթանպաստներ` իւրաքանչիւրը մինչեւ 2000 տոլար, պիտի յատկացուին արժանի ուսանողներու, որոնք կ’ամբողջացնեն յատուկ պայմանները ։ Դիմողները պէտք է ունենան հայկական ծագում, արձանագրուած ըլլան քառամեայ, օրինաւոր  համալսարան Ամերիկայի Միացեալ Նահանգներուն մէջ եւ ունենան նուազագոյնը 3.5 GPA։ Դիմողները պէտք է ըլլան գործունեայ հայկական կազմակերպութիւններէ ներս եւ պատրաստ ծառայելու Հայ համայնքին:

ՀԿԲՄ-ի նպատակն է զարգացնել ու խթանել Հայ ուսանողները, որպեսզի անոնք կատարելագործեն իրենց կարողութիւնները։

Նպաստները կը յատկացուին  մրցակցային հիմունքներով եւ ստուգումներէ ետք: Կրթանպաստի արժանացած ուսանողներու անունները պիտի յայտարարուին առցանց` մինչեւ Օգոստոս 1, 2024: Կրթանպաստնելու յանձման պաշտօնական արարողութիւնը տեղի պիտի ունենայ Օգոստոս 25, 2024-ին` ծնողներու եւ Միութեան բարեկամներու ներկայութեան։
